RCMP Family

My father joined the RCMP in 1975. He was born and raised in Fermeuse, NL, a small fishing village located on the Southern Shore. As you can imagine, a huge part of the RCMP life involves a fair bit of moving around. We spent many years living away from Newfoundland, but luckily for us our parents taught us it was very important to know our roots and where we came from. Every summer my mother would take the four of us "home" to Newfoundland. (My mother is also from Fermeuse.) We would spend our whole summer vacation on the island. Dad would follow us a month later and stay for the remainder of our vacation. We were very fortunate to be able to spend that time with our great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. In 1989, Dad got posted back to Newfoundland and we've been here every since. On July 23, 2007, my youngest brother, Cst. Daniel Kenny graduated from the RCMP Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. All three of my brothers have followed in my father's footsteps. Michael is the only one posted in Newfoundland. Jonathan is in Nova Scotia, and Daniel has been posted to Alberta. The four of us have all grown and have started families of our own. So every year, we plan our vacations at the same time so the boys living away can come "home".

In the photo (left to right): Staff Sergeant Jerome C. Kenny (father), Constable Michael Kenny (son); Constable Daniel Kenny (son), and Constable Jonathan Kenny (son). Michelle Frye (daughter); and Karen Kenny (mother).

Also, as far as we know, this is a first for the RCMP to have a father and three sons as serving members!
