Chai Coffee Packets
5 whole cloves
3 cardamom pods, cracked
1 cinnamon stick, cracked
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1 star anise
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 cup whole milk powder
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp coffee (not instant)
Butchers twine
Make these at home and pack them for your next camping or boil-up trip.
Open one coffee filter flat and place all the ingredients (except twine) in it. Fold the side closest to you up halfway, fold in both sides and then fold down the top. Open the second filter flat and place your flavour packet in it, the flap facing down. Repeat the folding process to ensure you don't have any flavourings spilling out. Tie the packet all the way around with twine and store it as you would any other dry products.
To Prepare: Add one packet to 3 cups boiling water. Boil 10-15 minutes, squeezing the bag with a spoon against the side of the pot occasionally. Remove from heat and steep 5 minutes, squeeze the bag (to ensure all the flavor is extracted) and discard.
Yield: 2 servings
