Molasses Wreaths

1 cup molasses
1⁄4 cup canola oil
2 tbsp baking soda
2 tbsp hot water
1 whole egg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
3 cups flour

Mix molasses and oil. Dissolve baking soda in hot water before adding to molasses. Mix in egg. Add remaining ingredients. Mix thoroughly; mixture will seem wet. Cover and chill overnight. Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thick. Cut out cookies using a wreath-shaped cookie cutter. Bake at 325°F for 25 minutes. Decorate with icing and candy if desired.
