Pea Soup

2 L water
2 cups split yellow peas
1 small onion
1 small piece of salt beef, diced (or 2 cups of ham, diced)
1 1⁄2 cups carrots, diced
1 1⁄2 cups celery, diced
1 1⁄2 cups turnip, diced
Pepper and savoury, to taste

Pepper and savoury, to taste
Bring water, peas, onion and salt beef (or ham) to a boil. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat and let simmer, while stirring occasionally, for about 45 min. on medium heat till peas are falling apart. Add remaining vegetables and seasonings; continue cooking on low heat till vegetables are tender. Soup will thicken as it rests
