Cranberry Nut Bread

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
11?2 tsp baking powder
1?2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1?4 cup shortening
3?4 cup orange juice
1 tbsp orange rind, grated
1 egg, beaten
1 cup cranberries, coarsely chopped
1?2 cup walnuts, chopped

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse oatmeal. Combine orange juice and rind with well-beaten egg. Pour all at once into dry ingredients, mixing just enough to dampen. Fold in berries and nuts; spoon into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until golden brown.
