In 1756, Captain James Cook took the longitude of Burgeo, NL from this island. While he was there the eclipse of the sun occurred, so he named the island “Eclipse Island.” I took this photo of Eclipse Island, Burgeo, NL, in 2012.   Submitted By: John Marsden
